Carpetbagger (n.)
Someone who goes to a new location to seek a prominent position. Originally, Northerners who went to the South after the Civil War to seek political and financial gain. They brought their belongings in bags made from carpet. Most recently, Taylor Swift when she sings "Welcome to New York."
