Harbinger (n.)
(Usage note: this word is almost always followed by "of doom.") Someone or something that is a forerunner...of doom. It comes from someone in the Middle Ages who would go ahead to arrange lodging accomodations...of doom. You could say that Punxatawney Phil is a terribly bad harbinger...of doom.
