Word of the Day

Guerdon (n./v., GRR-dn)

A reward (Technically, a cool-sounding word for a reward (Cool if you're not trying to get something back by advertising a reward, in which case it's confusing (I don't think anyone would do anything if you put up a "Lost; Guerdon $200" poster ($200 is not enough incentive for people to jump through hoops and figure out what a guerdon is (Which is exactly what you've been doing (And your guerdon is: useless knowledge (It's our specialty.).).).).).).

Link of the Day

Climbing the Dawn Wall

This is El Capitan, famous landmark at Yosemite National Park. People often try to climb it. Many have succeeded; there are (relatively) easy paths up the wall. But there are also very, very hard sections, some of which have never been climbed.

Until now, that is. Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgensen recently made the first free ascent of The Dawn Wall section of El Capitan, long regarded as one of the hardest climbs anywhere. There is some footage of it, and it is insane:

Drinks are on me, gentlemen. I'll hold your drinks if your hands are too sore.
