Word of the Day
Bedlam (n., BED-lum)
Absolute chaos and confusion, like 1,200 cars exiting a parking lot at once, jockeying for a place in a line at one of two exits.

At The Washington Post, Alexandra Petri humorously reviews every state flag and tells you why it's bad:
Someone gave the state of Alabama a box to check with the question “DO YOU WANT TO CREATE A FLAG” and this was the response. That or Alabama is unable to write its name and has to sign everything with a big red X. In general, it is a poor idea to pick as your flag an image that could be regarded as a negative answer to the question, “Should you visit Alabama?”
It's easy to find faults with any design—and state flags are VERY easy targets—but Petri's wit skewers the worst parts of the flags very well. As Peter Ustinov said, "Humor is just a funny way of making a point." State flags, by and large, are terrible, and this is a fun tour through their terribleness.
