Thread screen at Forever 21 in New York City
Forever 21 partnered with a design firm to create a gigantic thread screen that takes an uploaded photo and recreates it using 6,400 spools of thread. You can watch the live stream that shows the pictures being recreated or check out the behind the scenes video that shows how the 2,000lb machine was built:
This kind of idea has been done before—whimsically with pom poms and creepily with penguins—but I'm not sure I've seen something at the scale of the Forever 21 installation. Very, very cool.
