Potboiler (n., POT-boy-lurr)
A book, article, or other creative work that crudely caters to popular taste and is published quickly so the creator can make a living. The thing you do so you can do the thing you really want to do.
The best example of this is Michael Caine, who, when asked about being in Jaws 4: The Revenge, said, "I have never seen the film, but by all accounts it was terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific."
