Word of the Day

Fiduciary (adj./n., fih-DO-she-air-ee)

Someone who is obligated to act in another's best interests, especially monetary interests (think trustee:beneficiary, for one), or acting in that way. It can be used to refer to money-related things, but that robs the word of its depth. However, it is perfectly fine to say "Fiduciary!" to yourself. It is a very fun word.

165 years of New York Times covers in under a minute

This compilation by Josh Begley is a fascinating timelapse:

Watching the images fly by in succession reveals how the paper went from text to better-organized text to headlines to photos to color. Interestingly, below the fold has stayed fairly constant. But the masthead and above the fold has changed dramatically. There are elements of both good design and of a broader societal shift going on here. It's an interesting watch.
