Contretemps (n., KOHN-treh-TAWN)

A small squabble, or an unforseen event that throws a monkey wrench into the works. Note: throwing a literal, flesh and blood monkey into the works does count as a contretomps, as does a disagreement about throwing said monkey or the monkey screeching in your face. (This has not happened to us.)

A fictive flight above real Mars

Wired has a cool video with a better story behind it:

To fully appreciate the Martian landscape, one needs dimension and movement. In the video you see here, Finnish filmmaker Jan Fröjdman transformed HiRISE imagery into a dynamic, three-dimensional, overhead view of the Red Planet—no glasses required.

For the film you see here, the self-described space enthusiast hand-selected more than 33,000 reference points. It took him three months to complete.

A FICTIVE FLIGHT ABOVE REAL MARS from Jan Fröjdman on Vimeo.

We're fans of doing things the long, hard, stupid way, but this takes the cake. Three months and 33,000 points is incredible. Our sincere thanks, sir.
