Quad Cinema rebranding by Pentagram

Quad Cinema is a four-screen multiplex in New York City. It's been around a while; at its opening, it was the city's first multi-screen movie theater. Legendary design studio Pentagram, led by Paula Scheer, just redesigned the theater's look, and it is gorgeous and stunning:

Scheer and her team built from this logo, which draws from the theater's character. The rectangular letter designs and boxiness point to the four screens. The neon lighting is a nod to the many neon signs of a city. The black-and-lighting design also references movies and the screen/curtain dynamic. The glossiness of the look is not only beautiful but distinctly roots the theater in an urban setting. (And the whole thing is a nice futuristic-via-retro-elements look, which also works well for film.) All these elements get reused throughout the design:

This is top-notch work. I mean, it's Paula Scheer and Pentagram, but still: this is awesome. You can check out more of the project at Pentagram's website, where you can see all the other things they've done.
