To make something worse while trying to improve it. Take this word, for example. It's German. Therefore, it's hilariously complicated. But try to shorten it and it loses its wild complexity that pairs nicely with its meaning. It must be left alone to roam freely. We'll just have to put up with sneezing out syllables.
