Today, we honor one of the wonders of 20th century design, the IBM Selectric Typewriter.
First of all, that is an exceptionally thorough and good commercial! The demonstration of the Selectric's ball design is excellent—but there's even more to this unique design than just the interchangeable balls:
To this day, there are still people who have wired up their Selectrics to function as keyboards. It's not hard to see why. It's a classic, fantastic design that blends technology with convenience and worked really, really well. IBM did well with this one, and it's held up to this day.
