The Joueuse de Tympanon, a dulcimer-playing android from the 1700s
This is cool: the Joueuse de Tympanon is an android that plays what looks like a hammer dulcimer. It dates back to the 1700s and was made for Queen Marie Antoinette. After falling into disrepair during the French Revolution, it was restored in the 1800s. It's one part mechanical turk and one part music box, and it's cool to see it in action:
