One of the best purchases we've made in recent years at Dailies Central has been our Blue Snowball microphone. We originally got it for work. Its sound quality is good, not great—BUT it is versatile. The back of the Snowball has three settings ranging from "good for speaking directly into it" to "good for capturing an area of sound." For $70 (or $40, if you want to buy the hideous black one), you get a microphone that is exceptionally versatile for recording, podcasting, video calls, group calls, and more. And it's from a solid manufacturer.
One note: do NOT throw this Snowball at people. You will break electronics, skulls, and friendships. Do use it for audio. You will be happy.
