Word of the Day
Ostracize (v., AHS-truh-SIZE)
In ancient Greece, if someone got too powerful or became too unpopular, they would be banished from the city for five or ten years. The word literally comes from the Greek for "broken pottery," because the votes to do this would be recorded on a piece of broken pottery. In modern usage, it can also just mean to exclude from a group or influence, sans pottery.
