Word of the Day

Rescind (v., ree-SINNED)

To revoke or roll back an order, like when you say that you're going to give everyone $5 but realize you don't have enough bills to do it (the bad example) or when you pass a law outlawing alcohol and realize thirteen years later that it was a really bad idea (the good example).

Win a trip to Buffalo (America's Warmest Cold City)

Oxford Pennant, a Buffalo-based business, has started a contest for someone to win an all-expenses paid trip to Buffalo, NY. The catch? It has to be done during winter. As the contest states, Buffalo is known for its winter, so why not see it at its best? (The contest's originator noted that "it's like visiting Miami in the summer.") The winner receives round-trip airfare, gift cards to many top local restaurants and stores, hotel accommodations, and more.

The truth about Buffalo is that it’s a wonderful place, no matter the time of year! Even in the heart of winter, our snowy city is bustling with fun things to do, great things to eat and beautiful places to go. Most importantly, you’ll never visit a city with kinder people who are excited to share what they love about their hometown. Visit for two days and you’ll be a Bills fan for life - we promise!

We love this. Place matters. Our hometowns shape us and have things to discover or be shared. Good on Oxford Pennant for organizing this contest. (And they're right: the Buffalo people I've known are incredibly sweet. Honestly, most cold-weather folk are.)

You can go register for a chance to win the trip. Entries close on February 1.
