Word of the Day

Entreat (v., en-TREAT)

To really, truly, earnestly ask someone for something. Imagine you're five. You want a dog. Your parents say no. But you really want a dog. You ask again. "Please can we have a dog." No. "Oh PLEASE can we have a dog." No. "Please please please can we have a dog." No. "I'll do my homework for a year can we have a dog." This kind of asking.

Giant picture of the moon made from 50,000 photos

The photo above was made by Andrew McCarthy. He had good equipment, but nothing crazy. Instead, he combined thousands of photos, taking the best versions of them, and rolling them into one giant 81MB photo:

“The lit side of the moon was processed using 25 ’tiles’ that were stitched together in Photoshop,” the photographer tells PetaPixel. “Each ’tile’ was a stack of the best 50% of 2000 images captured with the ZWO.”

You can learn more about this photo on PetaPixel or see more of McCarthy's work over on Instagram.
