Trompe l'oeil (n., TROMP LOY)
A way of painting that looks real, but in an illusory way. Not necessarily painting the thing as it is, but painting it to look like it's in 3D space. See today's link for a good example.

In Utrecht, Netherlands, a couple Dutch street artists turned the side of an apartment building into a mural. They painted a trompe l'oeil bookcase, with giant books appearing above city streets:
