Politesse (n., pall-ih-TESS)
Formal politeness, courtesy, and etiquette. The things you break out when you're in the presence of a royal family, at holidays, and when you're imagining yourself as Colin Firth. (It's ok; we do it too.)

Missile Command is one of the all-time classic arcade games. Released in 1980, in the middle of the Cold War, it asked the user to defend his or her cities from a hail of oncoming missiles by firing counter-missiles (seen above).
The lead designer on this was Dave Theurer, and Polygon has a fascinating profile piece that chronicles Theurer and the creation of the game—and how Theurer's nightmares shaped the game.
