The history of Missile Command and its creator
Missile Command is one of the all-time classic arcade games. Released in 1980, in the middle of the Cold War, it asked the user to defend his or her cities from a hail of oncoming missiles by firing counter-missiles (seen above).
The lead designer on this was Dave Theurer, and Polygon has a fascinating profile piece that chronicles Theurer and the creation of the game—and how Theurer's nightmares shaped the game.
