Two filmmakers build the first scale model of the Solar System

Filmmakers Alex Gorosh and Wylie Overstreet have built and filmed the first timelapse of the solar system to scale. Starting with the Earth as a marble, the filmmakers and their friends calculated the size of the other planets and sun, as well as the distance between the planets, then set it all up in the Nevada desert (because you need seven miles of open area). The result is, predictably, excellent:

This video does such a great job balancing the scientific explanation of the scale with the actual mechanics of setting this up—then ending it with the reasons the filmmakers actually tried to do it. That kind of editing is not easy. But when it's done this well, you can really enjoy the point of the film too. Great stuff.
