We often get asked where all the content on The Dailies comes from. The answer is: a lot of places, but concentrated around a couple sites in particular.
Brain Pickings is a site we monitor but haven't featured. This is partly due to the sheer amount of content on it: Maria Popova puts 2–3 medium-length posts on it each day—and these aren't lightweight link candy. Popova features deep thought from creatives and...thinkers across time. For instance, just look at the post in the image above.
Compared to Brain Pickings, The Dailies is a lightweight. Popova reads voraciously to cull the content for the site. We don't have the bandwidth to do that. And even though I don't always agree with everything on the site—it's distinctly written from a contemporary humanist perspective—Popova is aiming at something deeper and putting in the work to hit that. It's a site worth supporting, either with clicks or donations.
Note: In 2012, Popova did an interesting long interview with The Great Discontent. If you're interested in learning about the origins of the site, it's worth a look.
