Word of the Day
Primordial (adj., pry-MORE-dee-ull)
Something that happened first or at the very beginning. Fundamental and core to something. (Which is why this word is in January and not December.)

This is one of the most bizarre, eye-popping, completely insane things I've ever seen: barnacle goose chicks jumping off an extremely tall cliff:
I've seen the video five times and still can't entirely believe what I see. These chicks are three days old. They've hatched up there because the parents know that their eggs are most safe up there, away from predators. But then the chicks have to jump so the family can continue looking for food, avoiding predators, and not attracting an unwelcome crowd by chirping all day and night. And so they jump. And bounce (oof, that feels so painful). Unreal.
All I'm saying is that I'm glad I didn't have to do that at three days old. And I certainly wouldn't be "a little fuzzy" after something like that either.
