Boston Dynamics' Atlas robot (the next generation)
Boston Dynamics makes awesome robots. We've got a few as possibilities in the future, and it's because we have so many that we've held off on publishing any. But their new model, the next generation of the Atlas, is pretty awesome:
I think Jason Kottke nailed it with his title: Giant new robot excels at taking human abuse. Or to borrow another popular phrase, a giant robot walking isn't cool. You know what's cool? A giant robot getting clubbed with a hockey stick and psychologically tortured.
Kidding aside, the level of balance and adjustment on the robot is impressive. I, for one, welcome our new robot overlords—and deny that I had anything to do with the hockey stick beatings their predecessors endured.
