In 1986, inspired by the World Cup, the boys of a Thailand fishing village built a makeshift, floating soccer pitch out of old boards and old fishing boats. Yes, floating. The boys went on to play in the semifinals of a local tournament, drawing the village together, and soccer—on a rebuilt pitch—has been a staple of the town since.
