Aoife O'Donovan / Crooked Still

Few genres have more tense relationships with their artists than bluegrass music. The music is deeply rooted in traditions—things that fiercely stay unchanged—but is performed by musicians who have been exposed to ever-broadening genres. There's a derisive term, "newgrass," for artists who try to riff on the genre.
