Most photography from the 19th century is the posed daguerrotype photos with stoic, unfriendly-looking people. However, the Norwegian Folkmuseum has a number of street photos taken by Norwegian mathematician, physicist, and amateur photographer Fredrik Carl Mülertz Størmer using a spy camera. Starmer's camera fit into a vest pocket and had a thin lens designed for a vest's buttonhole. With it, he captured candid scenes of people going about their lives:
