Elon Musk's SpaceX had a successful test flight yesterday, launching Musk's Tesla roadster into space. They livestreamed the entire thing (liftoff is around 29:30):
Lemme preach for a minute. I work at a tech startup. We've got an incredibly smart group of people who have made multiple products that involve hardware and software. We know what it takes to get a physical, electronic product to do cool things. And when we watched those boosters land, this room of brilliant people started exclaiming and saying things like "That's insane" and "That's the coolest thing I've ever seen" and "I can't believe I just saw that." And they're right, because that booster landing—two of them simultaneously—is sublime.
SpaceX has gone through a long, long road to do this, and it was amazing to watch it play out in real time. Fortunately, nothing blew up or caught fire. It went smoothly, setting the stage for the future of space launches and exploration. Bravo, team. That's flipping insane; it's the result of crazy hard work, and we wish you the best. Hopefully we'll be seeing much more of you in the future.
