Mr. Roberts Lumber Center was a great lumber yard. Its real claim to fame was its sign. If you peruse its Facebook page, you will see a variety of wonderful malaprops and folk wisdom. It was a store you'd routinely go out of your way to drive by, just to see what they had on their sign.
A few of the ones we can find or remember:
Sometimes I wake up grumpy; other times I let her sleep.
If pro is the opposite of con, then what's the opposite of progress?
I would die for you—just not right now
Ever tried groundhog? Kinda tastes like hamster (a February 2 classic)
Remember to set your scale back ten pounds this week (a Daylight Savings Time classic)
Happiness is the absence of striving for happiness
Either you love bacon or you are wrong
Psychic fair canceled due to unforseen circumstances
The sign is still standing. Perhaps the new owners will use it well.
