How Amazon uses robots to make its warehouses work
Amazon's ability to deliver nearly anything we need in a short period of time is incredible. They use a number of interesting techniques to accomplish this. One of them is how they use robots in their warehouses:
I guess robots moving shelves isn't that big a stretch from pick-and-place machines and other mechanical parts of an office...but it feels like one. These robots are locating and transporting large shelves at the same time that the rest of the fleet is doing the exact same thing. It's like flying 747s with a bunch of drone pilots. It seems like a recipe for disaster but it works so well. Very futuristic.
