Easily done, like a good conversation, or superficial, unlike a good conversation. Hrm. That doesn't seem helpful. Running the same play is easy to do but it doesn't lead to any kind of understanding of when and why to deploy it. It's the easy out.
The Grand Tour premieres today on Amazon. It's the new show from Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond since leaving Top Gear last year. Jalopnik has pulled together all the trailers for the show so far, including these two illustrative ones:
Top Gear works because the presenters are terrific at their job, individually and together, willing to make fun of themselves, joshing like old schoolpals, and enjoying cars while being able to articulate criticism well. It's a tough balance, and they've done it perfectly.
Here's a bit from the old show to demonstrate. The challenge: Richard Hammond has been marooned in Alaska for a week, and Clarkson and May have to race to see who can find him first. The winner gets to not take the by-then enraged Hammond back to London. It's a brilliant setup—especially if you don't tell Hammond:
